Mothering as a Work of Art: A Black Mama Anthology
This is more than a collection of stories; it is a testament to the strength and diversity of Black motherhood. As a mother and psychologist, I created this space to reclaim the narratives that are too often erased or dismissed, offering a tool for both personal and collective healing.
From Trauma to Transformation
This journey began in the quiet, difficult aftermath of my own childbirth. As a psychologist and healer, I found myself grappling with trauma I hadn't expected. I turned to writing to process—peeling back layers of my experience through journaling, blog posts and rough drafts, unaware that I was weaving a narrative of my own healing.
The Power of Storytelling
I discovered that with each retelling, I moved closer to healing. Narrative storytelling became the bridge between my pain and power. Mothering as a Work of Art emerged from that bridge—a communal narrative of Black mothers pouring out their hearts to speak on the universal journey of resilience and self-discovery.
A Personal Narrative
The First Draft: My birth story was the seed for this anthology. In this video, I share the personal experience that led me to realize we cannot heal what we do not name.
Key Themes Explored:
Healing from Trauma: Navigating the aftermath of birth and beyond.
The Power of Care: Building community as a catalyst for healing.
Love & Legacy: Exploring the joys and triumphs of the maternal journey.
Navigating Loss: Holding space for the complexities of the reproductive path.
**While this anthology explores psychological themes of healing and trauma, it is a creative and educational work and is not a substitute for clinical therapy
